For the last 6 years, I have used websites such as Elance to access freelance talent from around the world. I have worked with dozens of providers for tasks ranging from research, report writing, legal drafting, animation, website development and preparation of financial statements. For the most part, Elance connected me with highly skilled providers that offered lower pricing and a structured framework that minimized conflict and disagreement. I have typically worked with providers from the Philippines, Indonesia, India and Eastern Europe. This has started to change.
America’s economic slowdown is now starting to affect previously highly priced specialists who are cutting prices and competing ‘toe to toe’ with contractors from traditionally low-cost based countries. I awarded my last two contracts to highly experienced American providers in Silicon Valley and Texas at rates that beat providers from Singapore, India, Indonesia and Australia.
The world has changed with America’s slow down. Where will the ball bounce from here?

An Introduction
Indonesia is full of adventure. From the abundant sights to see across the thousands of cities, towns and villages; to navigating entrepreneurial opportunities that require creativity, grit and perseverance. Indonesia has become my new home.
