Weddings Indonesia Style

I attended two weddings this past Sunday and they continue to amaze me with the grandees and cultural heritage. The smallest wedding I went to was in Bandung for one of the drivers from work, with about 100 people. Despite the humble setting in a small house in a kampung, it was still grand in its own way. The largest was for a glamorous couple (above),  which had well over 2,000 people in attendance at a 5 star hotel in Jakarta. With such a public display involving multiple generations of family and their friends, it’s no wonder couples in Indonesia have a low divorce rate!

Pelabuhan Ratu (May 2009)

Pelabuhan Ratu is a popular destination for expats in Jakarta. I enjoyed the long weekend with a group of mostly French friends who also enjoyed the fresh BBQ’d seafood and great massages on the beach.

The French Connection

On the way there (3 hour drive), we stopped off at an organic farm belonging to an American expat and his Indonesian wife. They supply vegetables to many of the top restaurants in Jakarta. They are building an eco resort that will also provide organic cooking lessons etc.. Sounds good.
